"World Café" for mission statement development

October 21, 2019

In order to concretize the development of the school's mission statement and with the aim of allowing all those involved to have their say and to develop a common understanding, the principal Michael Lummel invited people to so-called "World Cafés" in the week before the fall break . In this method, as many ideas as possible are collected in a short time in discussion rounds in groups (in a coffee house atmosphere), by changing tables after about 10 minutes, and documented on the tablecloths. For each of the six guiding principles, there was a table at which a moderator welcomed the groups and wrote down the results.

On Sunday morning, the "World Café" for the student council took place and on Monday evening, before the parent council meeting, all parents were invited to the cafeteria for an exchange. Many parents took the opportunity to contribute their ideas for school development. The "World Café" for staff then took place on Wednesday morning during the first two hours of teacher study days. The input gained now serves as a basis for SMART (i.e. specific, measurable, attractive, realistic and timed) goals in the school development plan.
