Wellbeing training for our school mediators
November 04, 2020
Our anti-bullying team and peer mediators have continued to be active this school year and completed trainings with our school psychologist, Ms. Irina Lisak, in October. This covered topics such as emotional health and common conflict triggers. Furthermore, they discussed how to recognize signs of emotional stress, depression or panic, how to initiate the conversation to get help and how to give and accept constructive feedback.
Peer mediators
Since the 2018-19 school year, DISD has had a team of peer mediators. We call them dispute mediators, mediators, conflict mediators, or simply mediators. They are trained to mediate a dispute and be supportive in finding a solution.
Our Peer Mediators for the 2020/21 school year are: Eric Tadros, Nils Tröger, Khadija Sedky, Ty Stevens, Karma Elgharib, Valentina Meier.
We are pleased to be able to promote the social competence of our student through this project and to teach them non-violent conflict resolution strategies.
Anti-bullying team
Furthermore, there is an anti-bullying team at DISD. This is a team of students from Secondary School, which acts as a point of contact for fellow students should signs of exclusion or bullying occur.
They have been trained by Dubai Police as 'Safety Ambassadors', which is part of an initiative to improve safety in the classroom. The ambassadors inform their fellow students about their rights and what to do when confronted with signs of bullying.
In the 2020/21 school year, the team consists of the following students: The team consists of: Ahmed Batal, Nils Tröger, Filippos Karaspiros, Youssef Ghanem, Karma Elgharib, Ty Stevens, Razaan Eid and Geena DeMartin.
At the beginning of the school year, our anti-bullying team received an award from the Dubai Police Human Rights Department for their great work.
