Fourth graders participate in "Poetry For All" contest

November 10, 2020

Last week, DISD participated in the Emirates NBD Poetry For All competition for the first time, represented by a Year Four student and student . The competition is held annually by the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature to honor poetry and lyricism.

As part of the English class, which is currently dedicated to the theme "All about School," Saif Abouzeid and Taline Nassef recited two selected poems.

Taline Nassef presented the poem "Dear Mrs Buttler" by Allan Ahlberg, a poem about a desperate student who falls on deaf ears with her teacher and gets confusing answers. Saif Abouzeid recited "Homework, I love you" by Kenn Nesbitt, an ironic poem that tells of a student's relationship with his homework.

Due to Corona security measures, the competition was held over Zoom this year. Both student had rehearsed their poems very well and performed them expressively.

The final round of the competition will take place in March. We continue to keep our fingers crossed and wish them both every success!
