Climate projects in Primary School and kindergartens

Full of zest for action, our kindergarten children dived into the topic of recycling with an entrepreneurial project in October. Parents were asked to help by dropping off plastic bottles at the kindergarten. At the start of the project, the children shared their ideas about environmental protection and recycling and created colorful pictures that reflected their knowledge and imagination.

They learned about different recyclable materials and processes and discovered the world of recycling in a playful way. The young environmental experts then created colorful posters in groups, which they proudly presented to the other children.

The highlight of the project was the creative activity time, during which the children made lovely and funny flower pots from the old plastic bottles and planted them with herbs. At the end, the young entrepreneurs organized their own small marketing campaign to sell their flower pots for a good cause in the school community. The proceeds from the campaign were used to buy a new tree for the kindergarten playground - a living symbol of sustainability and the children's shared commitment to their environment.

Environmental awareness was also raised at the Primary School in October: the primary school children collected climate protection miles for the German Climate Alliance network.

The children collected various miles through environmentally conscious behavior: blue miles for saving energy and recycling, green miles for environmentally friendly mobility (e.g. taking the bus or carpooling) and yellow miles for consuming locally produced, climate-friendly food. Each mile was recorded by a colored dot in their digital collection booklet on the iPads.

The children from 4c collected the most with 2,072 Footprints and are this year's DISD Climate Protection Champions. A total of 17,057 Footprints were collected and passed on to Climate Alliance. All reported Footprints will travel to the 19th Climate Conference in Baku and will be presented there with the Footprints collected across Europe.
