Next Stop: Future – Graduating Class of 2025

May 22, 2025

34 certificates awarded

The 2025 graduating class of the German International School Dubai can look back with pride on its achievements: With an impressive overall average of 2.05, the 30 high school graduates are once again well above the German national average. This figure stands for much more than just good grades - it stands for hard work, perseverance and the high quality of our school work in an international environment.

The graduation ceremony took place on May 15 in the festively decorated school canteen. The evening was opened by the primary school choir singing the UAE anthem. It provided an emotional and atmospheric start with the musical pieces "Hallo Zukunft" and "Alte Schule, altes Haus".

Eleventh-graders Charlize Gerlacher and Leni Schulz hosted the evening program in a confident and charming manner. Together with Consul General Sybille Pfaff, the school board, school management, families, teachers and friends, the 34 graduates (30 DIA, 1 Fachabi, 1 Realschule, 2 Hauptschule) celebrated the end of their school career. Particularly outstanding is the result of the Abitur students Amina Abdelbaki and Hania Khaled, who completed their Abitur with the dream grade of 1.0 - an extraordinary achievement that deserves the highest recognition.

Amina is one of the pupils who have left their mark on our school in a very special way: She has been part of DISD since kindergarten and has spent her entire school career with us. She is now crowning this long educational journey with a 1.0 A-level and is now hoping for a place to study medicine. Her development is an impressive example of what is possible at our school when individual support, personal commitment and a supportive environment work together. As a non-native German speaker, Hania has also set an example with her 1.0. She came to DISD in Year 7 and set standards with determination and great ambition. "Her Abitur success is an expression of exceptional maturity and motivation," said principal Dr. Sammy Wafi in his speech. "Amina and Hania are representative of a year group that not only impresses with good grades, but also with attitude, character and courage for the future. The world of tomorrow needs people like you: people who shape the future with passion, commitment and an open heart."
Among the well-wishers was the German Consul General Sybille Pfaff, who thanked the DISD teachers in particular for imparting specialist knowledge and personally supporting the student in her speech: "I encourage you to go into the future with curiosity and determination. On behalf of the entire Consulate General, I would like to congratulate you on your graduation."

The representative of the German Schools Abroad Association, Frank Duve, also praised the achievements of the year group and focused on what they had learned beyond the classroom: "You have all taken a huge step forward in your lives. Apart from math, language and subject knowledge, you have learned things such as your learning behavior, social skills, conflict management, stress management and digital literacy."

In his speech, Head of Sixth Form Zeljko Babic emphasized the multilingualism and the special nature of the German International Abitur (DIA), which is taken at DISD - a qualification that opens doors worldwide: "Many people will say: Many people have already passed an Abitur. That's true. But very few of you speak two, three or sometimes even four languages fluently. Many of you don't have German as your mother tongue, but speak Arabic, English, Farsi, Tagalog or Spanish at home. If not that - then what is Outstanding?"

A special moment was the presentation of the Board of Directors' prizes, which were handed over personally by Mohamed and Saleh Sharaf from the Board of Directors: The two 1.0 high school graduates Amina and Hania were honored for their outstanding achievements. Also honored was Lara Oker, who received the prize for the best improvement in performance on the way to the Abitur - a symbol of remarkable development and personal progress.

We would like to congratulate all our graduates and look forward to seeing where your path will take you!
