DISD International Programs: Model United Nations in Oxford

In late November, a delegation of 10th- and 11th-grade students from the German International School Dubai (DISD) traveled to Oxford as part of the International Programs to participate in the Model United Nations (MUN). The co-curricular activity was organized and supervised by Sitem Kolburan and Louisa Willgrass.
In Model United Nations (MUN), young people take on the roles of diplomats, represent the positions of various countries, and discuss current global challenges in simulated UN bodies. The goal is to work together to develop solutions to international issues while strengthening skills such as critical thinking, negotiation, teamwork, intercultural communication, and public speaking.
Model United Nations (MUN) is an integral part of DISD’s international programs and is aimed at curious, engaged, and team-oriented student who want to reflect on current global political issues, understand different perspectives, and work with others to find solutions. Interacting with young people from around the world makes the conference a unique learning experience that goes far beyond the classroom.
In addition to the four-day conference in Oxford, the trip gave participants the opportunity to make international connections and gain valuable experience through exchanges with students from various countries. A stay in London, including a city tour and a boat ride on the Thames, rounded out the program.
All participants were awarded a Certificate of Participation. The position paper by Amin Elnaggar and Christopher Luka received special recognition. Since Amin was unable to make the trip, Narek Movisyan took his place in the delegation. The position paper presented by Christopher Luka and Narek Movisyan in Oxford was honored—a great success for the entire team.
Luca Erkol was delighted to receive yet another special honor: he was awarded an Honorable Mention Certificate for his achievements during the conference. In addition, his speech—which he had previously delivered at the H20 Summit 2025 at the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters in Geneva—was featured during the opening ceremony of the Model United Nations (MUN) in Oxford—a special recognition of his international involvement.
Participating in the Model United Nations (MUN) in Oxford was student valuable experience for our high school and student and provided them with an exciting glimpse into the world of international politics, diplomacy, and global cooperation.
