DISD International Programs: Harvard Model United Nations

As part of the international programs offered by the German International School Dubai (DISD), 23 student 9, 10, and 11 participated with great success in the prestigious Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) over the past four days. This international event enables young leaders from around the world to engage intensively with diplomacy, negotiation, and debate. With over 820 participants from more than 30 countries—including schools from North and South America—our student demonstrated student dedication and impressive skills.
A particular cause for celebration was the outstanding performance of Luca Erkol and Hala Hassan from Class 10c, who were honored with the prestigious Diplomatic Commendation Award. This award is presented to participants who stood out during the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) for their exceptional leadership and diplomatic skills. “Their outstanding dedication not only demonstrated their exceptional talent but also filled our school with great pride,” summarized the accompanying teacher, Ms. Willgrass.
The Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) challenged participants to critically analyze global issues and develop creative, sustainable solutions. Our student these challenges with flying colors. Their skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and debate were particularly evident as they collaborated with peers from a wide variety of cultures and presented well-reasoned proposals for complex issues.
“HMUN was an incredible opportunity not only to develop my diplomatic skills, but also to gain new perspectives and make friends with participants from all over the world,” Luca said of his experience. “The award is a great honor and motivates me to continue working on my skills.”
Hala also shared her thoughts: “This conference showed me how important it is to communicate openly and respectfully with others in order to find common solutions. The award means a lot to me because it reflects the hard work we’ve put in as a team.”
The accompanying teacher, Ms. Kolburan, emphasized the great significance of the event: “It was impressive to see the dedication and professionalism with which our student participated student the discussions. We are extremely grateful to have successfully represented our school at an international event and to have had this unique opportunity to participate here in the UAE—an opportunity for which other schools had to endure a 15-hour flight. Luca and Hala performed outstandingly. We are extremely proud of all the participants.”
Participating in the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) not only enriched the academic experience student but also demonstrated their ability to represent the German International School of Dubai (DISD) on the international stage.
