Fourth-grade team impresses in Bonn

Four children from class 4a won first place in the "Primary School - International contributions from German schools abroad" category of the international AbraPalabra story competition with their joint story "Around the world with the snacker tracker". Frederik Keiderling, Silas Altay, Amelie Unterfeld and Nabila Walker impressed the judges with their story, in which an invention is whisked away to Brazil as if from the land of milk and honey. "We came up with the idea after we did a presentation on Brazil in ethics. Then we came up with the story about the land of milk and honey," they explain proudly.

The children happily hold the 160-page AbraPalabra book with their story in their hands. In addition to the young authors, the winners are Lukas Duve, Yasmin Fazly, Jori Algherbawi and Frederik Keiderling, who contributed the illustrations to the story. Their drawings are printed in the book alongside the text. As a prize, they can look forward to an online reading for the class with the authors of the book Lila-Leuchtfeuer. "We are delighted and very proud," says class teacher Anja Beckert.

The AbraPlabra story competition organized by the KinderAtelier at the Frauenmuseum Bonn with subsequent publication has been running since 2004 and is sponsored by the Department of Culture. For 20 years, almost 50 schools with over180 stories have taken part every year. In addition to 4th grade classes from Bonn, German schools abroad have also been invited to take part in the writing competition since 2010. One story per class may be submitted in group or individual work. A jury of authors, children and adults select the best stories. In addition to the international winning team from 4a, the story by Maximilian Reuter and Alexandra Wallentin from 4d also made it into the anniversary edition of the AbraPalabra book. Sharlotte Kahlow artistically supported the authors with a self-painted picture. Congratulations to our talented fourth graders!
