Enrollment ceremony 2023
01 September 2023
On September 1, 81 first graders began their school careers at DISD. Proudly dressed in their brand-new school uniforms and equipped with their schoolbags, the new schoolchildren came together with their parents, grandparents and families to the festively decorated school cafeteria. Of course, the bulging school cone was not to be missed, because this typical German tradition is also cultivated far from home at DISD. With beating hearts, the little ABC students took their seats in the front rows of the hall.
"I am happy to welcome you to DISD. I'm sure you're all excited and anxious to see your homeroom teacher and your classrooms," said elementary school principal Inga Rehbein in welcoming the children. Principal Michael Lummel thanked the parents for their great support and joined the children in giving the proud parents a big round of applause. The elementary school choir under Head of of Valentyna Haluskho then delighted the families and school newcomers with their welcome song and the second classes performed the song "ABCDEFG".
Then the stage belonged to the first graders: In groups, they were called on stage by their class teacher and then escorted to their classroom. In the foyer, the current prospective high school graduates welcomed the first graders and sent them off to their classrooms with a high-five. A lovingly decorated pencil in the shape of a school cone with the inscription "Glad you're here" was waiting there as a welcome gift. The first graders then designed their name tags and concluded the first hour of school with a class dance.
The waiting parents were able to enjoy coffee and cake with the parents' council and parents from the second grades in the cafeteria gallery. The children returned from their first school experience with shining eyes and full of enthusiasm and are looking forward to what lies ahead of them now: an exciting school career at DISD. A few souvenir photos were taken and thus this wonderful and exciting first day of school came to an end.
