Wellbeing Training for School Mediators
Our Anti-bullying team and our peer mediators are also active this school year and completed training sessions with our school psychologist Mrs. Irina Lisak in October. The topics included emotional health and common conflict triggers. They also discussed how to recognize signs of emotional stress, depression or panic, how to initiate a conversation to get help and how to give and accept constructive feedback.
Since the 2018-19 school year, DISD has had a team of peer mediators.
Our peer mediators in the school year 2020/21 are Eric Tadros, Nils Tröger, Khadija Sedky, Ty Stevens, Karma Elgharib, Valentina Meier.
We are happy to be able to support the social competence of our students through this project and to teach them non-violent conflict resolution strategies.
There is also an Anti-bullying team at DISD. This is a team of secondary school students that acts as a contact point for fellow students in case there are signs of exclusion or bullying.
They have been trained by the Dubai Police as ‘Safety Ambassadors’, as part of an initiative to improve classroom safety. The Ambassadors inform their classmates about their rights and what to do if they are confronted with signs of bullying.
In the school year 2020/21, the team consists of the following students: The team consists of Ahmed Batal, Nils Tröger, Filippos Karaspiros, Youssef Ghanem, Karma Elgharib, Ty Stevens, Razaan Eid and Geena DeMartin
At the beginning of the school year, our anti-bullying team received an award from the Human Rights Department of the Dubai Police for its great work.
