Successful first informative Job Fair at DISD
More than 50 professionals came on Monday evening, May 14th to share their knowledge with our students. The teenagers happily took this chance to ask questions and the evening was inspiring for all participants.
The event was organized by two mothers in parent’s council, Mrs Rima Noah and Mrs Manuela Meitza with the objective to help the students of year 8 to 11 in their decision, which career to pursue after graduating from school. They were supported by Mrs Ulrike Suwwan, DISD Educational Consultant for School Improvement and Development. Not only DISD students were invited to the informative job fair but all German-speaking students in Dubai and other Emirates. Among others, students from Raffles World Academy and the German International School Sharjah attended.
DISD principle Mr Helmut Jolk initiated the idea since it appears difficult sometimes for students from German schools abroad to obtain information about the German-speaking labor market. In his opinion, personal contact with professionals is always more fruitful.
Before the event, a survey was conducted by the students of year 8 – 11 to find out which industries are most interesting to them. Those whishes were published in the school community as well as by the German-Arab Chamber of Commerce and the German Consulate General. The school thanks everyone who has supported the search for professionals and advertising the event. In the end, representatives from many industries attended, like medicine, law, engineering, tourism and event management, foreign affairs, IT, aviation. Please see pictures of all attendees on our Facebook page.
A special guest was Dubai Police, who had brought a part of their bike fleet. They talked to the impressed students about the training and daily work of the Dubai Police.
The feedback of the student and their parents was great and they were thankful for this unique possibility in Dubai. Many students left the conversations with new impressions of chances and obstacles the professions bring. Furthermore, they were able to establish contacts for more questions and possible internships. For the professionals, it was also an interesting evening, as they could learn about this generation’s expectations on the labor market.
The DISD thanks all persons involved for an inspiring evening. We are looking forward to the job fair 2019. Please find more pictures on our Facebook page.
