Practical seminar for Arabic teachers
On June 25th and 26th 2018 a two-day seminar for Arabic teachers of German Schools Abroad in the UAE took place at the German International School Dubai (DISD). These schools include, besides DISD, the German International School Abu Dhabi und the German International School Sharjah.
Under the guidance of Mr Birger Reese, Consultant for Pedagogical Quality Management und Regional Training of German Schools Abroad, the DISD-English teacher Mrs Susanne Bode, and the DISD-Educational Consultant for School Improvement and Development Mrs Ulrike Suwwan. Together with the Arabic teachers they discussed possibilities to optimize the foreign language teaching.
On the first day they covered topics like “the teacher’s role and communication during a lesson” and “methods of activity based teaching methods”. They analysed the structures of their Arabic as foreign language lessons followed by a sitting in on lectures in an English. Afterwards they compared and evaluated the methods. Focus of the second day was the topic of the getting started phase of a lesson. In different workshop units they analysed and discussed the planning and execution of a successful start of a new topic in a foreign language lesson.
After this first, productive work meeting further workshops for the Arabic teachers of German Schools Abroad in the UAE will follow during the next academic year.
