Students learn about their dream jobs
At the second job fair at the German International School Dubai students received valuable tips from experienced professionals
More than 60 dedicated practitioners had taken the time to present their careers on Tuesday evening, April 23. The offer was gratefully received by many interested students who took the opportunity to learn about or discover their dream job.
At 7pm Deputy Principal Dr. Sammy Wafi greeted the participants and guests with a short speech in which he emphasized the importance of the informative event. He thanked all practitioners for their support. Special thanks went to the two dedicated mothers of the DISD Parent’s Council, Rima Noah and Manuela Meitza, who had been organizing the event for the second time with great dedication.
Former DISD Principal Helmut Jolk launched the idea in 2018, as it is sometimes difficult for students from German Schools Abroad to obtain information about the German-speaking job market and this is made easier by personal contact with experienced professionals in Dubai.
Prior to the event, a survey was conducted among grade 8 to 11 year students to determine which occupations interest them. On this basis, various companies and professionals were contacted in the school community and with the help of the German Consulate General in Dubai and the German chamber of commerce, AHK. Finally, representatives from many industries were present, e.g. medicine, law, engineering, tourism and event management, foreign affairs, computer science and aviation.
Once again Dubai Police were there to support the fair. This year they came with a McLaren from their supercar fleet. DISD School Manager Andreas Wegner from the German Consulate General in Dubai was there to present career opportunities at the Federal Foreign Office.
The school’s sponsor Audi Volkswagen Middle East was represented by a team that provided information on various professions in the automotive industry and from the sponsor Sky Clinic, Dr. Riewer came to advise future dentists. DISD’s educational partner Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences was present with a table full of information on different courses of studies.
The feedback from the students and their parents was again very positive and they were grateful for this unique event in Dubai. Many students got some new ideas from the discussions and learned about the opportunities and hurdles of the different professions. In addition, valuable contacts were made for further questions and possible internships. It was also an exciting evening for the professional practitioners as they gained insights into what the younger generation expects from working life.
