Meet Salama, Latifa, Rashid, Opti, Alif, and Terra

On Thursday, September 26, our school principal Michael Lummel had the honor to attend the official unveiling of the Expo-2020 mascots. On behalf of Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimi, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of the Dubai Bureau of Expo 2020, the Expo School Programme Team invited representatives from all schools to attend the event.

Among the guests of honor were Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, and his son Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

The mascots were first presented in an entertaining short film, featuring Salama the Ghaf Tree, who represents the deeply rooted values of stability, tolerance and resilience on which the UAE was built. There is also an Emirati sibling couple: The eight-year-old Latifa is very curious and a real science wunderkind and her nine-year-old brother Rashid, who is very witty and wise. They are supported by the robots Opti, Alif and Terra. Each of them is responsible for one of the areas of the Expo.

The green robot Terra will be responsible for the area “The Sustainable Planet”, where the German Pavilion “Campus Germany” will be located.
