DISD Christmas Concert

In festive atmosphere, the annual Christmas Concert took place on Wednesday, 13th December at DISD. Around 250 guests attended the event in the beautifully decorated school canteen.

First, principal Helmut Jolk and the head of board Johannes Hummer welcomed the audience and commended on the positive development in the past year. Then the teacher Carolin Schemenau opened the concert impressively with Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus, after which the guests had already settled in the festive spirit.

The students Noah K. and Nina N. hosted the evening charmingly. The primary choir – led by Cornelia Kraus – first presented a journey through the stars and around the world, singing classics like Jingle Bells and Oh Tannenbaum. The choir was accompanied on the piano by Lay Kar Kho, the head of the DISD music department.

Afterwards the members of the guitar and piano clubs demonstrated their skills and the audience was surprised with an unplanned performance by a student, singing and playing on the guitar. At the end of the first half, the stage was literally rocked by the Hip Hop Club dancing to Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree.

During a short break Organic Foods & Café offered yummy treats like Gingerbread and hot fruit punch in the lobby. Afterwards Carolin Schemenau welcomed the audience with Ave Maria by Schubert back into the hall. The mother daughter duo Estella and Doris Neumair wowed the audience with Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley. Then, presentations by the secondary school choir and string orchestra followed, who presented classical pieces like Little Drummer Boy and the Russian Dance by Tschaikowski’s Nutcracker. Then the school band False Alarm played pieces by Jason Mraz, Linkin Park and Ed Sheeran.

A special festive atmosphere was conveyed by the Parents-Teacher-Choir who sang Silent Night, Holy Night, led by Carlos Teixeira and the DISD mother Priscille Pittet. The concert was ended with the sixth graders, who excited the audience with popular carols like Alle Jahre wieder, Kling Glöckchen and In der Weihnachtsbäckerei. Before the guests left for home, principle Helmut Jolk asked all organizers of the concert to the stage to thank them for their commitment. He wished all guests and the school community Merry Christmas and All the best for the new year.
