DISD Christmas Bazaar 2017

This year the popular Christmas Bazaar of the German International School Dubai (DISD) took place on  Saturday, December 9, 2017.

The Bazaar was a great success with more than 1000 participants and many wonderful school and external stalls. The lobby was filled with vendors who sold Gingerbread houses, German books, soaps, and many self-made gifts. In the Secondary School the 8th grade hosted a bake sale with delicious treats and DISD staff members offered Indian snacks which were – as always – very popular.

The highlight was the raffle, which had been prepared for weeks by the graduates and their families. 900 tickets were sold in no-time and many guests received wonderful gifts. The revenue supports the graduation prom night.

Once again we want to thank all sponsors:

This year the main prize was sponsored by Lufthansa.

Another amazing prize comes from Berlitz, who is donating a full language course. A big thanks goes to all sponsors of the tombola: Lufthansa, Berlitz, Al Nassma Schokolade, Amira Alaoui, Baker’s Kitchen, Bauer Equipment FZE, Capri-Sonne, CCD Zahnarzt, Dubai Cycle Tours, Elizabeth Bruce ElizArtz, Hayet Zerelli Jewellery, Hilti, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Kühne und Nagel, KYO Escape Japanise Cove, Lesekidz, Oasis Fashion Dubai, Petra Schellscheidt Tourguide, Platinum Heritage, Steigenberger, Stitches, Tang & Mora, The Camel Soap Factory, The Shower Tower, Villa 25 the Creative House, and Women’s Golf Middle East

Most people enjoyed the wonderful afternoon outside. There, Organic Foods & Cafe supported the school with a BBQ and Steigenberger Hotel sold hot Fruit Punch as well as treats from their Brothaus Restaurant. Dallmayr Coffee was there for everyone who needed a little energy boost in-between and for all healthy food enthusiasts, the 9th grade had prepared yummy salads.

But of course, as at every Christmas Bazaar, the sweet tooth was not neglected. Primary School students sold Christmas cookies and Popcorn, 5th grade baked delicious waffles and  6th graders offered homemade roasted almonds. Not to forget the cotton candy the Protestant Community of Germans in Dubai offered! Our Bus driver team offered fresh coconuts and the 10th and 11th graders sold other refreshments.

For everyone who was looking for Christmas gifts, 4th grade sold out on their popular Santa’s Jam fast and clothing, jewelry and toys were offered by external vendors in the school yard.  For the small ones, the Kindergarten had prepared a Christmas Olympics on the Sports Field as well as face painting.

Thus, old and young were  presented with a wide array of options to spent the afternoon and evening. Meeting new and old friends and enjoying the festive atmosphere with wonderful lights everywhere.

Guests who needed a little bit more entertainment  to get into the festive spirit in the middle of the desert, could enjoy wonderful performances by the Pre-school children who presented their traditional Snowflake  dance, 7 a who had prepared a French theater play as well as the primary school kids. Each class sang a Christmas Song and recited poems and in the end, the Primary School choir gave a teaser for the Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 13th. Finally, the 9th grade presented German and Arabic Storytelling in the cozy setting of our Secondary School Library.

We want to thank everyone who supported and helped and of course everyone who celebrated with us. We wish you all a great holiday season.
