4th graders participate at “Poetry For All” competition
Last week, DISD participated in the Emirates NBD “Poetry For All” competition for the first time, represented by two fourth graders. The competition is held annually by the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature to honor poetry.
As part of the English lessons, which are currently dedicated to the topic “All about School”, Saif Abouzeid and Taline Nassef recited two selected poems.
Taline Nassef presented the poem “Dear Mrs Buttler” by Allan Ahlberg, a poem about a desperate student who falls on deaf ears with her teacher and gets confusing answers. Saif Abouzeid recited “Homework, I love you” by Kenn Nesbitt, an ironic poem that tells of a student’s relationship to his homework.
Because of the Corona security measures, this year’s competition was held via Zoom. Both students had rehearsed their poems very well and recited them expressively.
The final round of the competition will take place in March. We keep our fingers crossed and wish them good luck!
